Flores Island in the Azores -  some shots of life in this little part of the world...

  • The scenery on Flores was just spectacular.  We could not get enough of it.  The flowers were everywhere. Theses scenes are from the Ponta Delgada area of the island.

  • There are various modes of transportation on the island as it is relatively small...

  • After a short hike Bob and Tania visited the powerful Ribiera das Casas just outside of Faja Grande where Bob and Tania were able to enjoy a gourmet meal each night at Casa da Vigia.  Bob in particular was pleased when the hosts (Stefano and Monica) were able to provide a marvelous "Osso Buco" for one evening.  All the food was made there (mostly homemade pasta dishes) and we had to wait for our salads as they ran out into the garden to get the ingredients.  They even had homemade gelada in various flavors (including Tania's favorite Caneel ( Cinnamon ).

  • The waterfall ends at Poco do Bacalhau where you can bathe if you so desire (and can stand the temperature) which initially felt pleasant but we understood from those that went swimming it was a bit cooler than we thought (70 degrees).

This view was of Fajazinha from where we stayed at Aldeia da Cuada (roughly translated to "small village of slippery rocks".  The crater from Caldeira da Comprida which is now a lake (Lagoa).  After spending another night in Santa Cruz (at the Hotel Occidental) because of aircraft delays we were treated to a rainbow over the Atlantic Ocean.
